I’m a proud bi-sexual woman married to a man, and so most people don’t know or realize that I’m queer. I came-out as a teen, first just to my mother… she was religious and I wasn’t sure if/how my gay-ness would change our relationship. I’m one of the lucky ones. My mother was open and accepting.
That’s not always how it goes.
When I first read the script for Walk With Me I felt my heart drop and I started tearing up. Writer/Director Isabel del Rosal had written a story that spoke to my experience of being bi; the simplicity of falling in love with a person and the complexities of stepping into your life.
Writing 16 songs for Walk With Me has been an emotional and deeply personal journey. This is the first time I’m using my art to tell queer stories. The first time I’m using my musical voice to express my own queer-ness and it feels… it feels like I’ve come home.
And now the movie is ACTUALLY coming to MY home, Toronto!
My hometown queer festival, and one of the biggest 2SLGBTQ+ festivals in the world, Inside Out Toronto has selected Walk With Me for the 2021 Festival line-up. I couldn’t be more proud of this beautiful film and now I can celebrate this amazing accomplishment with my own community!
I hope you will join in my celebration, buy a ticket to Walk With Me or better yet buy a festival pass and support queer story telling!
